I can't believe this is the last Weekly Update email I will be sending you. This year ended so strangely and I am left with a feeling of sadness. I am going to miss your sweet kids so much! Over this "summer" break, I won't be checking email daily, but please send pictures of fun for me to find when I do check it! Thank you so much for all of your support this year and especially during these last few months and my maternity leave. This was a very different year for all of us. I cannot express how much I appreciate you and how awesome you've been. There is a lot of information for today! Plesae read! Whole Class Meetings Next week we will be having two whole class meetings. We will have our usual meeting on Monday, June 8th at 12:00. We will have our final meeting of the school year on Thursday, June 11th at 10:30am. Use the Google Classroom Meet links for both meetings. Supply Pick Up Please make sure that you pick up your child's belongings on Monday, June 8th. I have bagged and labeled all of your child's materials. Please use the schedule below. Families will not be allowed to come into the building during pick up days. You will use the bus loop to create a line. If you are unable to pick up materials on this day, you will need to call the front office to set up an appointment to come another time. Last Names A-I 9:00-11:00 Last Names J-R 11:30-1:30 Last Names S-Z 2:00-4:00 Yearbooks Yearbooks will be distributed on the Supply Pick Up day. The PTA will have a table set up in the bus loop and if you ordered a yearbook, you will be able to stop at the table to pick it up during that time. Fourth Grade Teacher On Monday, June 8th, your family will receive an email from your child's fourth grade teacher with details about their Step Up Day event. I will not be sharing classroom assignments before then. If you do not receive an email from your child's teacher, please email me by Tuesday morning so I can make sure you get the necessary information. If you are leaving LPES, you will want to contact your child's new school about a virtual meet with their new teacher. Step Up Day Students will have a virtual step up day on Wednesday, June 10th, at 11:00am using Google Meet. Your child's fourth grade teacher will give you the details for this meeting. Please try to ensure your child is able to virtually attend this meeting. Getting to interact with their new teacher is so important in generating excitement about the new school year and diminishing some anxiety about moving up as well. Archiving Seesaw & Google Classroom On the last day of school, I will be archiving both our Seesaw class and our Google Classroom. All of your child's work in Google Classroom will be saved in their Google Drive. If you would like to keep your child's Seesaw work, you can download it as a PDF. Once I archive the class, your child's work will be available for 60 days. Visit this website for more information: Seesaw info for archiving Report Cards Report cards are coming home today. They have been marked "Confidential" and are encrypted. If you are having trouble opening the document, please follow these instructions: Work this week is a bit more on the fun side instead of "work work." :) We aren't quite finished with math lessons, so they continue pretty normally. EL lessons are a bit shorter than what they've been. There are no science lessons for the week since we are done with plants. There is an optional activity instead of science lessons. We finished socials studies a few weeks ago. I have included a picture of the home learning pacing guide below.
Thank you for everything. I truly appreciate it with my whole heart. Mrs. Farrell

Hello and welcome to June! I can't believe we are in June already! I hope everyone had a great weekend and enjoyed the weather. It looks like we will have a week split in half by sunshine then rain.
Our whole class meeting is Monday at 12:00 pm. If you have questions during the week, please post them in Google Classroom on the Questions for Mrs. Farrell post. I can sometimes jump on Google Meet (link in Google Classroom) and chat with you for help. Important Dates:
What are we learning? What day are we on? What lesson should I be doing today? In Google Classroom, there is a material at the top of the classwork page. It is called "Home Learning Pacing Guide," and it will answer those questions for you. Below you will find a screenshot of the Home Learning Pacing Guide so you will know what we are learning this week. Please remember to visit the specialists' website daily for activities for all specials classes. You can find their website HERE. LPES Parent Question Form for 2020-2021 Questions I hope you all have a fabulous week! Love, Mrs. Farrell Happy 3 day weekend! Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend. There are no assignments for Monday. The assignments for this week run Tuesday through Friday. I went into our classroom on Thursday and cleaned everything out. I tracked out all of our classroom materials for moving around to start next year. Then I took all the items out of everyone's desks and placed them into plastic bags. Some were messier than others :). It was the strangest thing I've had to do in my career for sure. I thought I was fine until I went into the cafeteria to see all the students' bags all over the tables. This was not how I pictured my seventh year of teaching. It still feels like it's not real. Thank you all so much for your flexibility as we've been learning how remote learning works. You have no idea how great you've been. I wouldn't have preferred to go through this with any other people. Thank you. *NEW: Our whole class meeting this week is on Wednesday at 12:00 pm. Love, Mrs. Farrell What a lovely weekend! I even got a little sunburn on our Saturday walk around the neighborhood! I can't wait to hear what everyone has been doing in this lovely weather. Pete and Raleigh are ALL over the place! They turned 6 months last week, which just feels crazy to say. I hope you are all able to enjoy family time in the sunshine!

Love, Mrs. Farrell I hope you all had a great weekend. It got a little chilly this weekend, didn't it? We had to turn the heat on a little bit so the nursery would warm up a bit! The sunshine was absolutely beautiful, though! Happy Mother's Day to all the moms, grandmas, aunts, stepmoms, and dads who may have to be moms at times. Thanks for all you do! Love, Mrs. Farrell Welcome to our 3rd week of remote learning! This has been an adjustment, but the Seesaw activities and Google assignments are going really well. Thank you for all who have been participating.
I know this is tough. It's definitely not the same as being in a classroom with me having the ability to explain things. However, if your child is in need of some help, PLEASE let me know so I can set up a one-on-one meeting or a small group meeting during my office hours or on Fridays. I'm sure you know by now that Governor Cooper stated on Friday that all NC school buildings will be closed for the rest of the school year. What does that mean for us? We will continue with our class meetings and remote learning. Our last day of school will be June 11th. I do not know what next school year will look like. That being said, I have a handful of mixed emotions. I am so happy to have this time with my boys. I get to watch them grow and have all the snuggles and spit up I could ever dream of. On the other hand, I miss my "kids." They were my kids first, and I was not ready on March 13th to "let them go." Had I known it would've been our last day together, I would've made sure to get a hug (even with the germs) from every one of them. I am so sad thinking about all of the things we will miss out on as we miss the last quarter together in our classroom. My heart breaks knowing what we had won't be any more. I honestly avoided thinking about it as long as I could this weekend. I feel like time was stolen from me with a group of seriously awesome kids. Thank you so much for raising such sweet, wonderful children. At this point, I am working on making our meetings even more fun and meaningful to feel like we didn't "miss out" on as much. Please let me know if your child is unable to make a meeting so I can make it up with them another time. This week in our lessons, we are learning:
Thank you so much. You are incredible. We will get through this together. Mrs. Farrell Hello and welcome to our second week of remote learning!
Last week was honestly way better than I thought it would be! I think I let some of my anxieties get the best of me. :) Thank you SO SO much for your patience with the links that may have not been working. It is definitely a change for me just like it's a change for you guys. Thank you times a million! Also, thank you to those sweet parents who submitted a parent shout out for me. That made my heart smile so big! You guys are awesome. Thanks for your support. You are wonderful! Same as last week: Please refer to the Home Learning tab on this website for all of the links and help. Please email me with any questions or login concerns. Don't forget this is all new and there may be some links and resources that don't work for whatever reason. Just email me with any issues, and my team and I will do my best to resolve them as quickly as possible. CHANGES:
Same - The specials teachers have come up with a website to showcase various specialist resources for you to use during remote learning- https://sites.google.com/wcpss.net/lpesspecials/ Thank you so much for reading! Mrs. Farrell Hello! This week starts the remote learning for LPES. Please refer to the Home Learning tab on this website for all of the links and help. We will have our class meeting Monday at 12 noon. Same code as always! Please see the Home Learning Pacing Guide (a working document which means it will change as time progresses) to see what lessons to use each day. It is available through Google Classroom. People outside of the network were trying to access, so I needed to remove it from my public website. Thank you. The specials teachers have come up with a website to showcase various specialist resources for you to use during remote learning- https://sites.google.com/wcpss.net/lpesspecials/ Thank you so much for reading! Mrs. Farrell From Ms. Benner: Hello, everyone! I am so glad we've had some amazing weather! Mr. Farrell and I took advantage of it this weekend and got some much needed yard work done. Well, Mr. Farrell worked in the yard while I took care of the babies. But when they napped, I was able to help! We were also able to get them outside, too! We opened up the back of the van in the garage and did tummy time in there. It was super fun and got them used to being outside. Copper also enjoyed a nap or too in the van while we were spreading mulch. I hope you were able to enjoy the weather and do something fun together as a family!
This week's challenge: bake or cook something and tell us about it! I posted an activity on Seesaw (thank you for responding- everything looks so yummy) for you to be able to post a picture, video, or other media to tell us about your recipe! We will discuss more tomorrow during our class meeting. Class Meetings: We will be doing a class meeting every Monday at 12pm. I will send the Google meet link to parents on Mondays before the meet via email. You can join by web, phone (or tablet) app, or phone. Please follow these norms for the meets:
Remote Learning Update: Wake County announced last week that all schools would be operating on a traditional schedule for the rest of the school year. It will look like this: Remote Learning Calendar 2020. Because of this change, this week is "spring break" and instruction will start next week. Next week, I will be adding assignments to Google Classroom. There will be a math unit, a Module (ELA) unit, a science unit, and a social studies unit along with a schedule of when to work on the different tasks. For math, we will start with fractions (which is what we were doing right before we left). For Module, we will be starting Module 4 - Water Around the World. For social studies, we will focus on geography. For science, we will focus on land and water features. **I will also be adding a "Home Learning" tab to this website that may help answer questions you have about logging in, etc. Important: This week I need everyone to make sure they are able to login to their WakeID so they can get into Google Classroom, Dreambox, and BrainPop. I also need everyone to make sure they can log in AS a STUDENT for Seesaw. The codes I emailed last week are necessary for that. I can reset a WakeID password, and I can resend a Seesaw code if needed. It will be no problem at all. For now, continue reading, practicing multiplication facts, getting onto any web resource you have found that works and is enjoyable, and writing. You do not need to spend hours and hours every day doing "school" work. Please cook and prepare meals with your kids. Spend time together as a family. Build forts. Go on scavenger hunts around the house or in the yard. Create movies. Try fun science experiments. Build something from recyclables. Tell scary stories in the dark with a flashlight. Be creative. I'd love to know what you're doing! If you have any questions, please email me or message me on Seesaw. I will try to respond as quickly as possible. I know that you are trying to get schedules going and balance working from home, too. It's a lot. Take care of yourself and your family. We will get through this difficult time! Thank you so much for all you are doing every day. Love, Mrs. Farrell I will try to continue newsletters as much as possible for some normalcy! :) We will get through this together. It is definitely tough, but I know that our Laurel Park community is strong!
Class Meetings: We will be doing a class meeting every Monday at 12pm. I will send the Google meet link to parents on Mondays before the meet via email. You can join by web, phone (or tablet) app, or phone. Please follow these norms for the meets:
Social Distancing Survey - please fill out this survey if you have not already. Thank you to those of you who have responded. Remote Learning Update: We have been told to start "real instruction" the week of April 6. The third grade team is working together to create lessons for math, EL, science, and social studies. These lessons will be pushed out through our Google Classroom. This is available through student WakeID logins. I will have more information about that when that time comes. I'll be sending home Seesaw codes so students can post to Seesaw from home. Let me know if there's anything I can do for you. <3 Love, Mrs. Farrell |
